Frequently Asked Questions

Do you roast differently for espresso vs. filter coffee?

No — we roast our coffees to perform well across different brewing methods. Whether you brew espresso, pour-over, or another style, the coffee is designed to deliver balance and clarity, so you can simply choose the method you enjoy most.

We recommend starting with a 1:2 ratio (for example, 18g in → 36g out) with a brew time of around 24 seconds. This works well for most coffees, especially balanced profiles.

For more intense, funky, or boozy coffees, you may prefer a longer ratio — sometimes up to 1:3. From there, adjust to your taste and enjoy dialing it in.

We recommend brewing with water around 86–94°C (185–200°F). The exact temperature can vary depending on your water quality and brewing method, so feel free to adjust slightly to suit your setup and taste.

Grind size depends on your grinder and calibration, so think of it as a spectrum from fine to coarse:

  • Espresso | Fine grind
  • Drip / Pour Over | Medium grind
  • French Press | Coarse grind
  • Cold Brew | Extra coarse grind

Use taste as your guide. If the coffee tastes bitter or harsh, the grind may be too fine. If it tastes weak or watery, the grind may be too coarse. Small adjustments can make a big difference, so feel free to experiment until it tastes right.

Yes — especially when moving between coffees with very different flavor profiles. Oils and fine particles can remain in the grinder and affect the taste of your next brew.

If your coffee suddenly tastes off, bitter, or dull after switching beans, the most common cause is residue from the previous coffee. We strongly recommend purging a small amount of the new coffee or brushing your grinder to keep flavors clean and accurate.

We recommend giving the coffee time to rest after roasting for the best possible experience. Most coffees begin opening up beautifully after around 10–14 days, allowing sweetness, clarity, and balance to become more expressive in the cup.

Fruit-forward and highly expressive coffees especially benefit from resting, as the flavors continue to develop and settle over time. Store your coffee in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, and enjoy discovering how the profile evolves with each brew.

We recommend storing your coffee in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, heat, and moisture. Keep the bag sealed tightly after each use to preserve freshness and flavor clarity.

Avoid storing coffee in the refrigerator, as changing temperatures and humidity can affect the quality of the beans over time.

No — our coffees contain no added sugar and no artificial sweeteners. The flavor experience comes from the coffee itself and the processing methods used to highlight natural sweetness and fruit expression.

Coffees with a more balanced or dessert-like profile often pair beautifully with milk. Rich notes such as chocolate, caramel, nuts, and creamy sweetness tend to create a smoother and more comforting milk-based experience.

For brighter and more fruit-forward coffees, we generally recommend enjoying them black to fully experience their clarity and complexity.

As coffee cools, different flavor compounds become more noticeable in the cup. You may experience increased sweetness, clearer fruit notes, or a softer overall texture as the temperature changes.

We always recommend taking your time with the cup and tasting it across different temperatures to experience the full profile.

Some coffees undergo advanced processing methods such as anaerobic fermentation or co-fermentation, which can create more expressive fruit notes, deeper sweetness, and unusual flavor combinations.

These profiles are intentionally crafted to feel vibrant, playful, and memorable while still preserving balance in the cup.

Yes — different brewing methods can highlight different aspects of the coffee.

Espresso often increases body and intensity, while pour-over brewing can emphasize clarity, sweetness, and delicate flavor notes. Exploring multiple brewing styles is one of the best ways to experience the full personality of a coffee.

Absolutely. Our coffees are developed to highlight natural sweetness, texture, and flavor clarity on their own. Many customers enjoy experiencing the full profile black before experimenting with milk or sweeteners.
